Human Experiences in Texts

Human experiences is shown throughout the television series ‘Go Back To Where You Came From’ and the book ‘Flight School’ by Lita Judge. Both these texts convey emotions, facial expressions and body language.

The television series ‘Go Back To Where You Came From’ is about 6 volunteers volunteering to experience the life of a refugee, five of these people are racists and this experiment will see whether or not by the end if they will change their perspectives on refugees. The six volunteers are Raquel Moore, Darren Hassan, Raye Colbey, Roderick Schneider, Gleny Rae and Adam Hartup. Dr David Corlett is a refugee expert and will be the host of the television series. The volunteers had to experience what it was like to travel by boat with very little things to seek safety and freedom, they also experienced waking up early to work with the refugee men, to go school with the refugee kids and to experience what it is like to be in a Refugee raid. They had met many refugees and asylum seekers throughout their experience that had been affected physically, emotionally and mentally.

‘Go Back To Where You Came From’ makes the audience feel many emotions for the participants and refugees in the show. The participants makes the audience feel many emotions such as hatred towards Raquel as she is a self confessed racist and doesn’t not like black people, and empathy towards Raye when she cried with Bahati Masudi’s wife because she felt as if she could relate to her when she told her story about her losing her child as Raye has had miscarriages. These examples  show that it is a human thing to loving to hate someone or something and to feel empathy towards  someone that hasn’t had a good experiences in their life.

The book ‘Flight School’ by Lita Judge is about a penguin that goes to flight school to try and achieve his dreams of flying however there are challenges along the way as he is a penguin.

Penguin shows human experience throughout the book through facial expressions, body language and emotions. In the book penguin never gives up as he believes there’s always hope however he needed the help from others around him to achieve his dream which is a human experience. In the scene of when penguins body was drooping and he was looking towards the ground showed us he was very unhappy and that he felt hopelessness. In another scene there was a long wire and feathers wrapped around penguin and he was in the sky, you can see how happy he is with his arms and eyes being wide open however he is unaware that flamingo is the reason why he was flying. Pelican can be seen in the background looking surprised because of his facial expression with his mouth being wide open and his eyes looking at penguin.

In conclusion, ‘Go Back To Where You Came From’ and ‘Flight School’ conveys human experiences such as emotions like hopelessness, facial expressions and body language.
